Complete Eye-Health Exams

Complete Eye-Health Exams in Vaughan and Scarborough, ON

When you come to Dr. Allyson Tang Optometrist for your yearly eye health exam, we do more than measuring your eyesight and glasses prescription. We assess your complete eye health from the front surface of your eyes to the inside. Examining the front surface of your eyes allows us to screen for problems including dry eyes, allergies or contact lens intolerance. Looking inside your eyes allows us to screen for silent diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes and retinal holes. Screening for binocular vision disorders and strabismus, or a misalignment of the eyes, can mean preventing eyestrain.

Just as your family doctor will take care of your general health through regular physical checkups, Dr. Tang and her team will collaborate with your family physician to manage ocular signs of systemic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and rheumatoid arthritis. It is even possible for your eye doctor to detect a general health problem before you have visited your family doctor. The eyes are the only place in the body where we can see directly down to the level of the blood vessels without making any cuts. There is indeed some truth to the old adage, ‘Your eyes are the windows to your soul’.

During the eye examination in Vaughan and Scarborough, we check your:

  • Glasses prescription
  • Eye pressure
  • Complete eye health both on the surface and inside your eyes

Adult Eye Exams in Vaughan and Scarborough

Our adult full eye health exam checking for your glasses prescription, eye pressure and complete eye health along with the OPTOMAP Retina scan takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour long, and you can expect to receive pupil dilation eye drops. Pupil dilation will blur your near vision and increase your sensitivity to bright lights for a few hours, so be sure to bring sunglasses. Distance vision usually remains about the same after dilation. However, for assurance, you may wish to bring a driver to take you home after the eye exam.

To help us enhance your experience and provide the best care for you, we ask that you bring any eyeglasses you are wearing, your list of medications, and allow enough time for the visit. If you have vision coverage, be sure to also bring your insurance card and ask us about electronic submission.

We look forward to your visit and helping you with complete eye-health exams in Vaughan and Scarborough and see what you love. Book an appointment today
