Complete Eye Health Exams
It is more than a good idea to check your eye health regularly based on your eye doctor’s recommendation. He or she can see things inside your eyes that you cannot see.
Did You Know?
Simple eye health exams are covered by OHIP once a year for persons below 20 years and over 64 years of age.
OPTOMAP wide-field retinal scan will make your annual eye health exam more complete, helping to detect and prevent silent eye diseases early.
Children and seniors are also covered by OHIP for partial eye examinations throughout the year – just an eyeglass prescription check for example. Keep in mind though, the recommended frequency of a full eye health exam for children and seniors is once a year.
For persons between the age of 19 and 65 years old, OHIP will still cover your simple eye health exam if you have, or if your eye doctor diagnoses you with one of the following serious diseases:
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Strabismus (crossed eyes)
- Retinal Disease
- Visual Field Defects (loss of part of the usual field of vision)
- Recurrent Uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of the eye – the uvea)
- Glaucoma
- Cataract
- Amblyopia
- Corneal Disease
- Optic Pathway Disease
