iVue OCT Scan in Vaughan and Scarborough, ON
Keep your eyes healthy by having a thorough eye exam regularly. An Optical Coherence Tomography – OCT scan – can help prevent and detect eye disease early. The OCT scan lets you see below the surface, into the ten layers of the sensory retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue lining the inside of the eye.
This eye test is especially useful in assessing and managing swelling and deterioration in the macula, which is the area of our central vision. Persons with diabetes and macular degeneration can benefit from the OCT scan and your eye doctor may recommend this test for you as a higher standard of eye care.
Patients with glaucoma or are at risk of glaucoma can also benefit from regular OCT scanning to monitor the health of the nerve fibers. Since glaucoma is diagnosed by observing nerve damage over time, the OCT is a powerful tool to detect disease before significant side vision loss occurs. Whenever early detection is possible, it allows for timely treatment.
Specialty contact lenses such as scleral lenses also utilize the OCT for improved fitting accuracy and greater contact lens fitting success.
From the front surface of the eye down to microns of retinal tissue at the back of the eye, the OCT is a powerful clinical tool that transforms the way eye health exams are experienced.
