Emergency Eye Care

Emergency Eye Care in Vaughan, ON

Any kind of emergency can be worrisome, but even more so when it happens to something as delicate as your eyes. If you are in need of emergency eye care near you, Dr. Allyson Tang is available to help you restore your eye health.

It can be difficult to determine whether or not you need immediate care for your eyes, but in general, any time that you experience trauma to the eyes, it’s a good idea to have them checked out by an emergency eye doctor. If anything gets into your eyes – especially chemicals or foreign objects – it is very important to see a professional as soon as possible to limit and reduce any potential damage from occurring to the eye.

It is also important to see your Emergency optometrist at Dr. Tang’s Optometry Office if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Painful and/or red eyes
  • Inability to open the eyes
  • Flashing lights
  • Decreased vision
  • Pupils that are not the same size
  • Eyes are not moving in sync or do not look even
  • Double vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Bruising around the eyes
  • Bleeding or discharge from the eye
  • Severe itching
  • New or severe headaches

The sooner you receive urgent eye care for the injury or trauma, the lower the risk of damage, and the quicker you can experience relief and recovery. Just as early detection during routine eye exams is important to eye health, early treatment of problems is important to prevent serious damage to the eyes or vision.

While there is no clear definition of what “counts” as an eye emergency, if you feel that you need to receive any kind of treatment for your eyes, contact your doctor as soon as possible. If it is outside of normal office hours and you cannot wait until an emergency eye clinic near you opens, you can go to the nearest hospital or, if necessary, call 911. If you have sudden vision loss, swelling, bleeding, or pain in the eye, you are advised to visit an urgent care center or emergency room.

Your eye health is our number one priority at Dr. Tang’s Optometry Office in Vaughan or Scarborough, ON, and we are here to help maintain it and recover it during emergencies.
